Hair reduction is one of the most popular plastic surgery treatments of today, and over 11 million laser hair reductions are performed each year in the United States, according to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. The reasons for its popularity are almost as numerous as the people getting it – citing waste reduction, permanent cosmetic alterations, long-term savings on hygiene products, and even just ease, there are few reasons why laser hair reduction shouldn’t be considered.
Laser hair reduction with Great Skin Ohio is a quick, relatively painless procedure done by dermatologic surgeons with years of experience. Below is a little more information on what the process is like and how we do it here.
Laser Hair Reduction Treatment Overview
Laser hair reduction is done using a laser apparatus that heats your hair follicles to a therapeutic level that eventually stops hair growth. Before the procedure, consult with your doctor about your health status and any potential risks you might have.
On the day of the procedure, you will arrive at Great Skin Ohio and will be given a topical anesthetic to numb the area. If any remaining hairs need to be shaved that will be done. Then, you’ll be given goggles to protect your eyes from the lasers, and the treatment will begin. Using one of our laser apparatuses, one of our doctors will apply it to the area being treated, and laser pulses will be sent to your follicles. You can expect the procedure to last between a few minutes for smaller spots to an hour for larger spots.
After the procedure, you will need to schedule your follow-up appointment. Between appointments, be sure to avoid sun exposure for six weeks, or as recommended by your doctor. You might experience some swelling or discomfort, which usually only lasts a day or two and can be mitigated with ice packs. For skin irritation, steroids might be prescribed.
